"Gastronomia Italiana"

I've babbled on about the great pizzas at DOC and had only high expectations of its sister store 'Carlton Espresso' on Lygon St.  Despite the hustle and bustle of the staff sending and relaying orders, I had quite a pleasant meal and devoured everything,

Coffee was great

Says the waiter in his Italian-English, "this one is chocolate, this one has a nuts, this one is uhhh finish, this one is a i don't know, this one is maybe berry, i don't know, i don't know, i don't know..." hahahahaa!

 

A 'jam tart' apparently.  It had a sweet tangy swirly icing thing on top and a crumbly chocolate centre.  Yum!  Just wish I knew what it's called haha

Self serve water.  Straight from the valleys of Italy.  I joke.

There are tables at the shop front and in a little courtyard up back too.  Had there been a free table, we would've sat outside.  Service was efficient although could be easily mistaken for being a touch abrupt.  The waitresses were constantly on their toes with the steady flow of customers coming in.

I'll definitely be back again soon!
